Without foreseeing the future projected for this mount, the story has its beginnings in past family generations, many years ago, from which Teresa Pereira ended up inheriting the property. The project's name is also a legacy, as it results from a curious episode. “There is no longer anyone who can confirm this, but they said that my great-grandfather claimed to be able to see, from this place, sardines jumping at the bottom, into the sea”, he says. The entire history that followed the inheritance is written by the family, made up of the couple Teresa Pereira/Cesário Gonçalves and their three children.
 

THE TRANSFORMATION

The first steps towards the transfiguration of Monte Sardinha emerged in 2007, with the beginning of the recovery of the existing built structures, by the hand of the Gonçalves family. Hence, the work was carried out at the possible pace, imposed by professional life in other areas. Years later, two houses emerged from the conversion: the current Vieirinha and Samoqueira, two T2 semi-detached houses located in one of the highest areas of the vast land, covering 13 hectares. Later, it was the turn of the current Galé (T1) to be ready, in the back of the two previous units.

At the same time, and taking advantage of the surrounding nature, conditions were created to exercise the body and mind, from the implementation of an outdoor gym to the creation of tracking paths on the property. The existing dam was also improved for the enjoyment of visitors, constituting, today, an important area of fruition on Monte Sardinha. In the meantime, the adjacent leisure area has been added, where it is possible to admire the beauty of the magnificent surrounding landscape, day or night, installed on an ottoman or a chair, under a leafy tree.

Since 2017, Monte Sardinha customers have also available an outdoor swimming pool, designed and physically designed by the Gonçalves family. This leisure area is supported by all the essential equipment for the pleasure of diving and offers a truly stunning and unique sunset. On the property, there are also two barbecue areas for cooking meals, as well as tables and benches to enjoy them.

Monte Sardinha expanded its accommodation offer in 2019, with the construction of Pego, a wooden house with a wide view to the West. Two years later, in 2021, the two most recent units would be completed and made available, a few meters below: Carvalhal and Comporta.

 

THE CONCEPT

Monte Sardinha is an unfinished story. Because that's the only way it makes sense. The family's entrepreneurship is demonstrated in small daily steps and will give rise to new creations and, therefore, to new chapters. But if this is an area in constant development, since the concept is associated with the rural tourism unit, this has been maintained since the beginning of the project and is immutable in the relationship it exhibits with the surroundings: minimalist, familiar, cosy and more natural as possible.

At Monte Sardinha, Nature is invited on a permanent basis and, in itself, a full invitation to take a dip in a relaxing environment. The conditions provided by this space are in line with its wisdom and presence, as demonstrated by the outdoor gym, the still wild paths or the dam. Meditating, listening to birds chirping during the day or the sounds of the night, watching the stars or moon occupy their space in the sky, watching a sunset or listening to the silence are increasingly valuable experiences in the world in which we live that can be lived at Monte Sardinha. It is from this symbiosis, this healthy balance with Nature, that everything flourishes!
